Engage Worcester Initiative is currently building an all new version of our site. This new site will be used to connect our volunteers to area organizations and volunteer opportunities they might be interested in.
Our blog will be back up soon to detail our progress.
Our organization was founded with the intent to take on a myriad of issues in our city. We decided that by responding to each of these issues with campaigns, construction projects, clean-up events, etc. we could push our vision of a cutting edge and more economically viable Worcester. During our pre-incorporation process, our focus was on helping to build communal bonds amongst the citizenry of Worcester, and aiding existing redevelopment services and efforts. Though we still believe in that modern city, we want to remain true to our intentions. We also face the fact that the best way to go about getting to that vision of modernity isn’t by being a swiss army knife of an organization, but rather by serving as well as we can with one great service. Over the past two months our board of directors has met repeatedly and taken lots of time individually for trying to refocus our organization and design the best way for us to make an impact. I’m going to explain what we decided on. So, I am pleased to officially introduce to the public Engage Worcester’s new central focus for the foreseeable future: increasing volunteerism across all issues, agencies and events in the city and metropolitan area. We are currently increasing our network of affiliated organizations and our volunteer corps in order to act as a sort of staffing agency for volunteer needs. With a large corps of individuals from around the region dedicated to serving many issues, and our staff helping them to match up with immediate and ongoing needs of organizations and causes in our area, we can make the most immediate and useful impact within all of the causes we sought to serve when we founded our organization. Best of all, this is a service which requires only a small capitol investment, and allows us to deploy its benefits to affiliated organizations without asking for anything in return, or calling for a vast increase in fundraising. This service is in its infancy, but we have decided to come out of our mode of development and keep the public and potential partners in the loop as to our progress via this blog, which will finally be used actively. In addition to the staffing capacity, we are planning on using our webspace to curate a social network for those in our area to stay up to date on organizations, news, and events related to our core causes of redevelopment and communal bonding in Worcester. This space will also allow members of our volunteer corps, and partner organizations to share their volunteer experiences with the wider public, and their social circles. This will give the public a direct witness to what is happening in our area, and hopefully encourage more to participate, and keep our organization informed as to how we can improve our own efforts. Thanks for your attention, & stay tuned. Mike Logue, Co-Founder, Engage Worcester Initiative, Inc.
